- I was interested in this because it's something I really only learned about in the last few years...as a "white" woman, I've always been a little jealous of the sisterhood that black women feel. It's a generalization, yes, but in my experience white women seem to be less welcoming to other white women than black women do to other black women. Foster Raymond offers some insight on the flip side.read more
- Crystal, I completely agree this conversation is ridiculous. If someone told me the story of a country shocked that its first lady was wearing shorts, I would never guess it was happening in America. This is a woman who happens to be first lady on vacation with her children. What is there to be offended about exactly?

It tells them there's something wrong with them if they want to fight back, that they should just be quiet and ignore the horrible thing that was done to them and, as you pointed out, taken from them. No, they don't have to be martyrs at all. But, for better or worse, today when you make a decision to come forward and say a crime — any crime — happened to you, you are stepping into a spotlight. The mainstream media no longer controls information. It can't keep people from finding out the name of anyone who has been hurt this way. The best it can do is report accurately and stay away from the sensationalistic stories. I should say I don't think it's a clear cut issue, but certainly one it's time the msm reexamined. The first step is discussions like this.

I'm really glad they passed too, Crystal, because something definitely has to change when it comes to people's finances. But that will mean we ALL have to take responsibility for what we've been doing, how we've been treating money for years — and that includes the credit card companies.

When I hear "Republicans" now, I think of Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove, people who say divisive things and are all about tearing ideas down. People don't have an idea of any positive things the GOP is anymore. Once they begin doing that, promoting positive things they believe in, I think people who agree with those ideas will be attracted. People of all ethnic backgrounds will be attracted to them, that is if they can come up with some things they are for that directly affect minorities and are things minorities care about. But that's a big "if."

Judge Orders Promotions For White Firefighters Who Sued Over Racial DiscriminationWed, 11/25/2009 - 10:30Last summer, 14 white firefighters and one Latino firefighter won a Supreme Court case charging they had been denied promotions because of race. Connecticut officials now say they'll promote the firefighters following a ruling Tuesday from a federal judge. The case spent five years in court. It was sparked by the New Haven, Conn., fire department's decision to toss out the scores of all firefighters who took a test for a promotion because none of the Black firefighters scored well enou ...

The Economy's Looking Up Again, At Least According To ConsumersTue, 11/24/2009 - 09:17After sinking for two months straight, consumer confidence grew from 48.7 in October to 49.5 in November, according to the Conference Board. To put things into perspective, though, a rating of 90 or better represents a strong economy, so we've got a long way to go. Still, analysts had projected consumer confidence would fall to 47.5.
