Swapping tips on finding a job

Everyone knows the job market has been horrendous considering the number of layoffs and the overall state of our economy. The Diversity Job Fair sponsored by the NAACP and the National MBA Association, being held in various cities across the nation, is just one of the many resources available to help you navigate the job market.
If you're currently in the job market, we'd like to hear your tips and stories on getting employed.

One thing I know from experience is that you can't rely on the Internet alone. Relationships still matter.
You definitely can't rely just on the internet, but for someone trying to get face time with a big company- how would you go about establishing a relationship?
